a domain + SEO nerd email for domain + SEO nerds...

the best domains @ auction plus other news and things and stuff

Hey!

Long time no… whatever.

Felt like writing a domain-focused newsletter again.

One thing I learned when trying to send this on the same account as Rank Theory (earlier this year)is that:

some people HATE hearing about domain name bullshit—mass unsubscribe event.

Whoops.

So now I have this separate list and I can talk about:

  • domain investing

  • domains I want to buy but don’t have enough money for

  • interesting domain related things

  • blah blah blah you get it: domains.

There’s no sponsor or anything so enjoy the ad-free content on this, the day after one of the holiest days of the Capitalism Calendar…

I Bought 707 Domains + Websites

…and boy are my arms tired.

I mean, my wallet. My wallet is tired.

These sites are all aged, indexed, and have a little starter site built on them an a few niche-relevant blog posts.

I bought them from someone that used the sites as a pretty high quality, very much not spammed internal network. My plan is to sell the shit out of them. If you’re in the market for a starter site, keep your eyes out (especially at RankTheory—go subscribe to that newsletter if you’re somehow here and not there), I’ll be listing them out at my website for everyone to buy them.

Yes, the mix of registrars, hosting companies, and renewal fees are an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. Hoping I can sell several hundred of these as quickly as possible.

Speaking of selling domains…

I Just Sold SmokeGenius On Afternic

In mid-November, I got an email from Afternic’s Fast Transfer service that SmokeGenius.com sold for $1199.

I don’t sell many domains (JUST domains) — with a portfolio of just under 300 names, so this was a nice surprise. I bought it for $10 on GoDaddy Auctions in April 2017.

The Founder of HubSpot Paid $700k for You.ai

Dharmesh bought You dot AI for $700k… do you think it was a good deal?

I think he may have overpaid a bit, but I ALSO am not worth hundreds of millions of dollars, so… what do I know?

Relatedly, every month there is an auction by the tiny country of Anguilla that had the entire fucking mind-zapping luck to get the country code .AI, and they properly monopolized that shit—you can only catch expiring dot AI domains at their own drop catch property: auction.whois.ai… here are some of the currently expiring inventory (active the last 10/first 5 or so days of each month).

I bought a couple from here over the past year, including:

  • Wednesday .ai

  • February. ai

Two very solid domains.

LMK if you’re interested in seeing the other .ai names in my portfolio, I’ll publish them in the next one.

Last thing:

I know I said (on twitter) that I’d share my 13 psychedelic names I sold in May in this newsletter, but this was way more than I intended to write, so I’ma save that for next time SORRY.

SEO Domains At Auction

Here are some interesting SEO domains @ auction over at auctions.godaddy.com — they should all still be live by the time you get this, but some might not be, IDK.

Also: do your own due diligence, don’t just buy these cuz they ended up on some asshole’s list…

TheBeautyDepartment.com

Big authority AND ranking for a bunch of keywords as it expires = a solid pickup = fucking expensive.

CasadeMaryland.org

a rich-ass place in Maryland (just assuming) with some dope links:

Ellingtonschool.org

A pretty awful domain still ranking for a bunch of keywords—just begging for one of those “publish 15,000 articles and make a million in ad rev” kind of plays…

TokyoMango.com

I have no idea what this site was… some kind of BoingBoing-esque interest stuff blog?

Dope links tho…

TreasureIslands.org

I think it used to be a website for a book about tax evasion or some shit called Treasure Islands.

hella links..

TheCollegeView.com

A college-related website I guess? ranking for a bunch of stupid bullshit…

Domains You Could Build A Brand On

Sometimes the aged domain you end up with and ranking on is really awful (you really gonna build a 6-figure music site exist on EllingtonSchool.org?) so this section is both the better brands you could redirect stuff TO and also domain investing possibilities.

But you don’t have to take MY word for it!

…please don’t take my word for it. Buy something because you believe in it, not because I do.

2058.com

four letter numeric: gonna be fucking expensive.

Pensioner.com

soon to be a foreign concept… can probably build a solid “retire now/retire early/retire rich” kind of brand on this one.

Cheese.net

every body loves cheese… but do you really want to sell cheese over the internet?

or I guess… programmatic SEO cheese site?

lol.

800.org

memorable af but not gonna be cheap…

Assist.io

solid .IO brand…

YachtRental.com

this is definitely a thing that exists… could be a solid rank + rent?

Ascribe.com

not all one-word .coms are valuable!

GoldenKey.com

could be a vaulable brand

PoolBoy.com

UH OH

bow chicka wow ow

OR a really great and hilarious pool company of affiliate/ecom site lol…

Solstice.io

fuck. i love solstice as a brand, it’s OK as a .io.

probs gonna be too expensive as a MFer though—too much to put down just cuz I have a crush on a name.

That’s a wrap!

What did you think of this SEO newsletter? Hit reply and tell me which name you got your eye on.

Also, two things:

One:

I have an SEO Domain Broker service where I sell names with juice or with built out sites for you (for a cut of the proceeds). If you’ve got a name you think might be a good fit, and you’re OK with giving me 15% fill out the form here and I’ll LYK if I think I could sell it to my list.

Two:

I also have a pretty exclusive, turning-away-a-lot-of-people service where I’ll build you a killer site with boss SEO on a premium name for money + equity.

If you’ve got a fucking amazing domain (or several) hit reply and get in touch. Let’s CHAT.

Until next time (whenever THAT is)…
